Your Delicate Demeanor

Your delicate demeanor
goes a long way to produce
a palliative sheen -- or
at the best a gentle truce

between the blunt unsaid
and the uncomfortably felt –
to waylay any dread
behind the neatly tightened belt

of your sweet well-bred smile --
which calms the breeding storm –
effects a lack of guile
that manages to warm

the troubled soul progressively.
When angst begins to foment
the fearful heart obsessively,
manners save the moment.
