Child and Parent, Daydreaming

Child and parent, daydreaming,
are intricately calm: they know
they started out as unity.
Their separate drifting minds

comprise a surface shimmer --
veils and gentle ruses in soft
dissonance which sift and shift
above their well-wrought hearts –

and gain by being lulled
into the thoughtful. They wander
into private possibility, and try it.
There’s nothing like their quiet.
