Telling Secrets in the Summer

Telling secrets in the summer –
walking down the beach into the breach
and reach of confidences shared, compared
and sneaked into the roasting air and heat
as if to dry them out like melba toast to eat --

to keep to recollect for later, where in their
confined particularity, when you’re alone
and cool, you might then peek to check
if anything you said was true: well,
that’s a thing that you could do.
