Now, Perhaps

Today you look for simple forms
to see what wants to tell you what it’s feeling.
Today you had been reeling from immensities
and their intricacies and the appearances

of far too many ardors in too many
artists, lovers, addicts, lonely children,
pent-up dogs. These weren’t fogs – oh no,
they burst with gorgeous specificities.

But something else, you think, today,
might please. And so you’ve sought
instead of fought and brought it round. Now,
perhaps, some small simplicity’s been found.
