My Favorite Creature

Strange to contemplate a face –
saddled in its skin – prey to chromosomal
intimacies like a mother’s eyes, a father’s chin –

odd to think how very unsurprisingly akin
it is to every other face: symmetrically
proportionate, predictably in place:

except for you, my dear.
You are inimitably here
in every feature.
You're my favorite creature.
