Seymour

As summer spreads herself
into immensity – and undergoes again
her slow voluptuous irruptions of intensity –

achieves, above her glossy leaves and beds
of tangled vines and powered lines
of muscled roots, a greater density of heat

and richer light throughout July –
the catalyst with whom she’s in cahoots
now blusters up into the sky to rule the land.

His name is Seymour, homonym for See More,
because he does that better than we can.
Is this contraption bloom or bird or man? –

absurd ballooning flapping form!  –
but Seymour is in charge of keeping
Summer very large and very warm.
