A
blessed secret gasp of freedom
runs
through mid-November
when
her cool constituency
realizes
it’s not yet indentured
to
a holiday – no need to be iconic yet –
now
mid-November’s members
get
to be for moments undefined –
no
Christmas crush, and Halloween
is
far behind, and even Turkey Day
seems
just sufficiently remote
to
make the middle of the month evoke
not
anything at all but its sweet
unconsidered
light and air. Dare
to
take a walk through it: abandon care.
How
lovely to find nothing there!
