Poems are
like grandmothers:
they slip
from any easy role:
they haven’t much
to do
with daily
living.
Though I don’t
know
what grandmothers
or poems are:
I never really
had one.
They say that
what we get
when we
connect
is ineluctably
the truth.
But every
time a poem
or a grandma takes
me
to the
carnival
I end up in an
empty booth.
