Blue Balls

Azure and cerulean and periwinkle troubles –
indigo, viridian and all those turquoise bubbles

altering the light –
muddling your sight:

certainties vamoose – every tenet falls –
due to the invidious unloosing of blue balls.

If I Had One

You’d like an explanation
but I have none.

And I’m not sure
I’d give it if I had one.

The Earl of Sandwich

The Earl of Sandwich was the first.
We owe a debt to him.
He placed between two pieces
of thick bread a slice of meat and fed

the rest of us with what forever after
we would honor in his name throughout
two hundred fifty years of lunches
then and now and yet to come:

the sandwich – from a land which
also gave us language – which we use
sometimes against its rules: for instance
by employing “sandwich” as a verb –

such as when I say I’ll sandwich you
between my arms all day, my little lamb –
loving what we are and what we am.
We won’t need any ham.

Let’s Call Things What They Are

Pride, go take a ride.
You’re too obsessed with Shame.
Today I’ll be replacing you
with names devoid of blame.

Boredom and Depression –
adaptations to frustration!
Take your band-aids off us, damn it:
flap around another planet.

Let’s look directly at the star.
Let’s call things what they are.

Nuthin

I do not know what
to do about nuthin
& nuthin don't know
what to do about me.

Everything’s Alive

We live inside the living.
The complex of a house
and its inhabitants
wreaks sentience
with a vengeance.

Everything’s alive:
the bees, the air, the hive.

Breathe With It

Let less be more –
then worry less:
emerge from blue
amorphousness

and surge toward
the igniting light:
see the day
give form to night.

Dive in, beseech –
be pleased with it
breathe it in,
and breathe with it.
