Kiss for Pay

No better than she has to be,
she blushes – ripe – on cue;
voluptuous – plucked off the tree –
receptively on view –

engaging in the business of
her yearly kiss for pay –
though like a harlot feigning love,
she looks the other way –

her sweetness seems peremptory –
her heart far out of reach –
her show of pink complacency
belies another peach.
