The Vehicle of You

The delicacy
and the efficacy
of the vehicle of you!

There’s nowhere
you won’t drive –
exorbitantly
gorgeous and alive –

you’re what to do –
you are the show –
the only means
of getting where to go –

you are the window
and the view.

Quite a Show

“Let yourself go,” they said,
and so he did, and rid
himself of every overt
push against the flow in him

and every hidden inhibition
reining in and reigning over
what somatically
and psychologically impeded

how his deepest and most
ardent parts so yearned
to grow! All in all,
he’s put on quite a show.

Detect The Prize

Eyes obtain, contain, retain
more consciousness than
those parts of the brain

which notice and report
what they think is the whole.
There is a deeper bowl

and eyes have access to it.
Look into any creature’s eyes,
detect the prize: pursue it.

Formula

Every moment is a formula
than which there is no better to be had.

Today you ate a crispy chicken thigh
enfolded in a bun with Brooklyn-savvy

condiments and piquant greens
which made you glad.

Now you’re home, unclothed and thin
and bluish-white – self-evidently sad.

Every moment is a formula
than which there is no better to be had.

Royal Progress

Every day’s a royal progress:
in which you conjure up your realm –

survey it – take your place up at the helm –

and oversee, achieve
and undergo, retrieve

and infiltrate – until it’s late enough to leave –

and so you do.
Every life’s a royal progress too.

The Ghost of Otherwise

Sometimes when you look toward the skies
the Ghost of Otherwise arises
and looks back at you, bewildered you would
think that Up was better to beseech than Down.

But what is Up and what is Down?
All you know is, you are looking Out.
But then that breeds a doubt which
gets you in a spin. What is Out and what is In?

It

is connected –
flows –

complected
in bright glows –

inviolate
in violet.

What He Is or What He Ain’t

Sometimes you meet a fellow
by whom you are transfixed –
as if he’d mixed constituents of Soul

into an unaccustomed bowl –
and made its dips and twists seem level.
Some call this fellow “Devil.”

But others say he’s colored
by a different sort of paint.
They call him “Saint.”

You don’t know
what he is
or what he ain’t.

As Mellow as a Cat

The day is warm and pink –
as mellow as a cat.
What do you think of that?
What else? Your yellow hat.

Then You Realize

Sometimes when you wake up,
you don’t feel you belong.

Then you realize
you were wrong.

Part of the Pie

Some spirits run
and some spirits fly.
So many ways
to be part of the pie.

The More Persuasive Sign

The skeptic
and the ardent explicator:
with which do you align?
Which gives the more persuasive sign?

That Sad Creature Whom You Love

Sometimes the only thing to do
with that sad creature whom you love
is put him on a large balloon
and let him float above –

and leave him there
until he tires of bobbling in the air –
at which point, bring him down.
That might distract him from his frown.

Now, Perhaps

Today you look for simple forms
to see what wants to tell you what it’s feeling.
Today you had been reeling from immensities
and their intricacies and the appearances

of far too many ardors in too many
artists, lovers, addicts, lonely children,
pent-up dogs. These weren’t fogs – oh no,
they burst with gorgeous specificities.

But something else, you think, today,
might please. And so you’ve sought
instead of fought and brought it round. Now,
perhaps, some small simplicity’s been found.

A Blessèd Duo-Ridden Dawn

Some like their deities
in threes
but I’d choose
getting gods in twos –

two is company, three’s a crowd,
two is humble, three is proud,
two is quiet, three is loud.

So let us couple up and stay
with my divine frost-blue-haired lady
and her wise beige hanger-on

and pray they’ll take us
to their blest and blessèd
duo-ridden dawn.

Silent Songs

Presumably tries to read in touch
what you can’t say in words.
Silent songs of birds.

Winds Can Undermine

Winds can undermine –
propagate the feeling
of a fine sweet freedom
when you stand in them –

help you to envision
grander realms –
help you to imagine
you could land in them.

Despite your
fight inside
to be you,

Édouard
toujours
lights up
to see you!

Grappling Unhappily

Eternity is grappling unhappily with time.
They cannot force a single thing
between them into rhyme.

Quite True

Were you the woman
wearing rubies
in the ruby gown

who looked me
up and down
and clearly thought

I wouldn’t do?
Well, that’s quite true.
I never do.
