The intimate surprise –

the red bloom in her lips –

the way her psyche slips

into her bedroom eyes.

Two new-minted random

members of two species

from a rampantly imagining

Imaginer today succeeded

in perceiving one another –

each suspecting that he was

the other’s brother. Alas,

since neither had a father

or a mother, their fraternity

could not be proved. But they

liked each other; and they

left each other, moved.

Four Feet

Today you were a quadruped –

and oh, it was a treat!

What lovely sturdy fixity

to stand upon four feet!

Offering an Explanation

Offering an explanation rarely offers explanation –

but rather reassurance that in answer to a vexing question

something always can be said to foster the illusion, anyway,

of clarifying light. It doesn’t matter if it’s right. Suggesting

reasonable ease is plausible (with tact), it seeks far more

to soothe and smooth than traffic in some ugly fact.

Sufficient to Our Task

Apparently we have to spend our tenures

on the planet doing something. We’re told

not to pursue or do the dumb thing –

but to be mindful of the mind-fields and be smart –

to take the proper part, derive a reputable way

to stay alive. And it’s reputed we’re alive asleep

as much as we’re alive awake. Might sleeping

be sufficient to our task? We thought we’d ask.

A Sentience Ready to Assess

There was, as you had known there’d be,

a balm of calm in his demeanor – yet,

as soon as he had trained his eyes on you,

an equally familiar glint in him of seeing

a surprise in you – a sentience ready to assess,

more ready than you might have liked.

The prospect of a conversation spiked

you into just the tiniest distress. All you’d

ever wanted him, or anyone, to say was “yes.”
