Altered Love (Winster Solstice)

That something could have changed between them
is enough to alter everything. The faintest thought
their hearts might falter is intolerable. Love becomes
a lie. If constancy, the blood and soul of it, is not
the measure of their lives, what of anything survives?

The whole of it now shatters. Constructs fail. Ideas
are monstrous. There is no palatable air to breathe.
Silence seizes – what to do but cease? Strangely,
unaccountably, the darkness insurmountably begins
to breed a kind of peace, as if to christen. They listen.
